Race Directors

Earlier this year, CARA announced two race designations for which Race Directors could apply: CARA Best of Chicagoland Races and CARA Certified Races.

The CARA Best of Chicagoland Races category was established to give races a premier opportunity to promote their excellence and be promoted by CARA to its membership and the Chicagoland running community. Only a limited number of races were selected for this category. These races do not constitute a competitive series of races; the category was closed to new applications in January, 2009.

CARA has given its former Registered Races a new name: CARA Certified Races. It was an easy decision; race directors seemed to want that designation – a CARA Certified Race. This remains the choice designation for most races in the Chicagoland area that are striving to provide a high quality running event to runners. CARA Certified Races are expected to adhere to CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines (formerly known at the CARA Race Standards).

We hope you’ll want to be a CARA Certified Race! Make your race more successful, safe and attractive to runners.

The former CARA Competitive Circuit was replaced by the CARA Runners’ Choice Series. Races did not apply to be part of this series; it was constructed from choices made by members in a survey.
