Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis
Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis
What is it?
Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis tendonitis is defined as an inflammation of the posterior tibialis (“tib”) tendon that runs directly behind the inner heel bone and into the arch of the foot. Causes may include a rapid increase in intensity or duration of activity and overpronation.
What can you do?
Initially, use the RICE method (relative rest, ice, compression, and elevation). Training modification is also necessary (reduction of training time, use of decreased weight- bearing activities, including cycling, swimming, elliptical machine). Stretching strengthening of the calf muscles and use of appropriate footwear (and orthotics, if necessary) are also important.
