Ed Packel

CARA Race Committee

Ed Packel is an Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Lake Forest College, where he taught from 1971 until 2013. Soccer was his main sport in college and he coached the Lake Forest College soccer team for 4 years in the mid-1970s. He started running in 1978 and has been competing on the CARA Runners’ Choice Circuit (when not injured or on sabbatical) since the early 1980s. He is a founding member (1981) of the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Running Club. He has run 20 marathons, setting his 2:41:00 PR at age 41. Two of his most satisfying races have been the Rockford State Street Mile (5:17 at age 60) and the San Francisco Marathon (3:23:28 at age 68).

Ed has been an enthusiastic member of the CARA Racing Committee since 2010. CARA races have been instrumental in enlivening and improving his running and it is his desire to share this experience with as many other Chicago area runners as possible.
