'Go Run

Race, Run, Jog, Walk, Volunteer - #GoRun Your Park.

Free timed 1 Mile and 5K runs in local parks

'Go Run is a community partnership between the Chicago Area Runners Association and the Chicago Park District with an objective to activate neighborhood parks, build communities and encourage active lifestyle through running and volunteerism. 'Go Runs aim to become a core part of neighborhood culture, encouraging organic community engagement at, and long after, each run.

After two seasons, 'Go Run has served more than 3,000 finishers - individuals of all ages and abilities - and energized neighborhood residents to come together, both as runners and volunteers, to create something truly inspiring.

'Go Runs are open to everyone who is interested in coming out to their neighborhood park to race, run, jog, walk and volunteer. Long-time runners, newcomers, families and children are invited to take part.  Runners with strollers and dogs on leash are also welcome. The volunteers at each ‘Go Run are as important to the mission of the program as are the runners and walkers. Volunteers are needed to help support each run, and also to encourage greater community engagement at each.

One registration enters you to participate in all 2017 'Go Runs. Only register once per calendar year.

Volunteers may sign-up for individual dates through the year. Volunteer roles are 7:45am to 10:30am.

'Go Run will occur at Humbolt Park, Warren Park and Washington Park on all dates listed (dates still tentative)

Our goal is to bring the community together in local parks to enjoy running. 'Go Runs are grassroots events. Expect a laid back, fun, community atmosphere. Water and Gatorade will be provided. Bathrooms open 30 minutes prior to the run. There will be a display clock at the finish and timed results that will be posted online quickly after the run.

Many will run hard like a race, others will just run, jog or walk. Strollers and friendly dogs on a leash are welcome. Those in wheelchairs are also encouraged to join in. Bicycles, skates and other wheeled items are not permitted.

At 9:00am we will gather all participants at the start line for quick announcements, then we will begin the run shortly after.

Connect with us on social media on facebook (www.facebook.com/gorunchicago/) for pictures, runners education and tips, announcements and to connect with fellow 'Go Run participants.

'Go Runs are FREE, but you must register before your first run of the calendar year through the "Registration" link at the top of the page.  Online registrations will be accepted until 9:00am the Friday before each 'Go Run. If registering for the current week after that time please register in person at 'Go Run between 8:15am and 8:45am. Once you register you are registered for 'Go Run for the entire year (2017). You only must register once per year. If you need to update your information, such as changing contact information, please e-mail us at events@cararuns.org.

Results for each park will only be posted online quickly after each run here at GoRunChicago.org on our RESULTS PAGE.  Results will not be printed and posted at each run. Pre-registered participants will be listed by their name. "Day Of" registrants will be listed only by their tag number after their first run. Then listed by the name for all future runs.

At your first 'Go Run of the year (2017) participants must check-in at the blue tent. First time participants will recieve their participant bib number to pin to their chest. After you have received a bib number you do not need to check-in again. If you lose your bib number or need a replacement check-in again and we are happy to provide a new bib number.

Participants may check a reasonable size bag of their choice while running. A gear check identification tag, to be provided, must be attached to the bag before dropping it off. Bags may be dropped off between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. and must be picked up by 10:00 a.m. Please note the gear check area is not covered. In the event of inclement weather, participants may wish to choose a plastic or weather-proof bag. The event is not responsible for lost or damaged items checked at gear check. Please do not check valuables and avoid bringing items to check that are not needed for the run.

Participants who officially finish and / or volunteer (or combination of both) at all eight 'Go Runs will receive a free 'Go Run t-shirt. Incentive shirts will be available at the final 'Go Run of each season in 2017!

Because Chicago weather can change in an instant, we have the following cancellation policy in place:

If a 'Go Run is canceled before Friday at 4:00pm we will notify registered participants via email by 4 p.m. on Friday. We will also post this information on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

In the case of a run being canceled after business hours on Friday, we will post a cancellation notice only on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

With your help, we can do more. Please conisder making a donation to help 'Go Run expand its footprint and make an even greater impact in 2017.

I’ve met some great people at ‘Go Run, what’s next?

Organize a run during the week, have a picnic after the next ‘Go Run, go out for coffee… the community needs you to take charge and bring people together. Be creative and make sure ‘Go Run doesn’t end at the finish line.
