Put your training to the test and experience the thrill of competition. Race the clock, your friends, or just that one guy in the purple singlet who doesn’t even know you’re there. There’s nothing like the excitement of race day, and CARA is your go-to resource for every race event in the area.

Several hundred 5k-10ks, numerous half marathons and marathons, scores of themed fun run and family events: Chicagoland is a great place to test your fitness, beat your personal best, raise funds for a worthy cause, even run with your kids in full costume.

The CARA community is here to help you find and complete your next race. As a nonprofit organization run by runners, we’ll help you find the resources you need to run and to race farther, faster, and better.

  • We offer a competitive circuit of races: the CARA Runners’ Choice Circuit, which enables Chicago area runners of all ages and abilities to pursue excellence, earn awards, and enjoy camaraderie with other runners.
  • We also offer the respected CARA certification process for area races run by other organizations. Runners know that these races adhere to CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines and offer high-quality, safe, and accurate racing experiences.
  • And we offer runners the chance to help fellow runners prepare for and compete in Chicagoland races. Interested? Check out our Volunteer page.

Countdown to Raceday!

It’s a Breeze

"Taking off on a long trail run when the temperature is 45-55 degrees, cloudy, with a light breeze, is the best stress reliever. Running has taken me to different states—the Arizona White Tank Mountains (took me eight hours to finish but it was worth it) or the Tecumseh Trail Marathon in Indiana…I have run four marathons and two 50K ultras, and I owe that to CARA."
