Athletic Trainers

Athletic trainers are nationally certified and state licensed healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to enhance activity in athletic competition, work and life.  They play an integral role in injury prevention, acute-injury assessment, post –injury rehabilitation process and return-to-play (run).  Athletic trainers are trained in current methods of strength and conditioning, preventative bracing and taping, rehabilitation of injuries, nutritional counseling, and emergency care and action planning. 

The criteria for athletic trainers are:

  • An athletic trainer must graduate with a bachelor and master’s degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program.
  • Has successfully passed a comprehensive national certification exam, administered by the board of certification for the athletic trainer.
  • Required to maintain certification through accredited advanced continuing education.
