Volunteer

Without the commitment and support of our volunteers, CARA would not be able to make its wide-reaching impact on Chicagoland's running community.  which is why we truly appreciate every one of them. No matter the task, our volunteers go above and beyond to give back to the community. We are fortunate enough to be surrounded and influenced by the most selfless volunteers around. Join our volunteer team and feel the joy of giving back!

Volunteer Opportunities

We are in search of volunteers for each of our events. You can sign up by clicking the "VOLUNTEER" button on each of our event pages. These include Miles Per Hour, Lakefront 10 Miler & 5K, Spring Trail Chase, Chi-Town Miles, Marathon VIP, & 'Go Run™. Volunteer links become available when registration opens for the event.

Hydration Stations

CARA/Fleet Feet hydration stations, collaboratively supported by Gatorade Endurance, provide trail users hydration along the Chicago Lakefront Trail, as well as at various trailheads at suburban CARA training sites. Volunteers are needed to help operate stations. Interested persons can email: info@cararuns.org to sign up.

Leadership Opportunities

CARA Board of Directors and Committees

CARA's volunteer Board of Directors and its various committees provide oversight and strategic direction for the organization. In addition to the Board of Directors, committees include Fundraising/Development Committee, Race Committee (CARA Circuit), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, Nominating Committee, and the Board of Directors Executive Committee. Those interested in applying for the board of directors or a committee should email info@cararuns.org.

CARA Training Program Leaders

CARA training programs rely on dedicated volunteer site coordinators, group leaders, and coaches to support program participants, and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Site coordinators are recruited from experienced program group leaders. Those interested in becoming a site coordinator now, or in the future as openings are available should contact CARA Director of Training Tim Bradley (tim@cararuns.org).

Group leaders are the backbone of CARA training programs. Group leaders keep runners safe, organized, on-pace, and motivated during training runs. Those interested becoming a group leader can learn more HERE.

Coaches are needed to support CARA track workouts. Experienced coaches may be tabbed with leading a workout, where others can assist with workout organization and timing while learning. Those interested in becoming a coach or assistant coach should contact CARA Director of Training Tim Bradley (tim@cararuns.org).

'Go Run Program Leadership Team

Interested in being part of our leadership team? The 'Go Run leadership team is a dedicated team that leads 'Go Run program outreach, as well as important operational areas at each 'Go Run. Leadership team members should have previous experience volunteering and/or participating with 'Go Run. Leadership team members should be able to volunteer at 'Go Run routinely, with an average of at least two 'Go Runs per month. Interested persons should contact CARA Community Development Manager Dominique Sabbs (dominique@cararuns.org) with their interest.

CARA Event Captains

Event Captains lead important operational areas at CARA's events and races. Captains oversee and lead volunteers on event day at areas like aid stations, start / finish line, packet pick-up and registration, gear check, course marshaling, and more. Event Captains should have prior experience volunteering or working at events and races. Appropriate training and support will be provided prior to all roles. Those new to serving in a captain role are invited to volunteer and shadow current captains to learn and develop skills. Those interested in serving as captains should email info@cararuns.org.

Run Crew Leaders

CARA Run Crews help bring the CARA community to neighborhoods throughout Chicagoland through accessible opportunities to participate in group runs, track workouts, and running clubs. Those interested in developing a CARA Run Crew in their neighborhood should contact CARA Community Development Manager Dominique Sabbs (dominique@cararuns.org) with their interest.
