Heat Assignments: View your participant account, or click "check-in pass" in participant email. (Last updated 8:30 p.m., 7/28)

Schedule Update 7/26: After a review of entries, the schedule has been updated. "Top Men A" will be the fastest men's entries, "Top Women A" will be the fastest women's entries. The next fastest entries by gender will be in "Open Men" and "Open Women". All "Open [Letter]" heats are combined gender heats seeded by entry time. The heats of Top Boys 18 & Under, Top Girls 18 & Under, Top Boys 13 & Under, and Top Girls 13 & Under have been removed due to limited entries, and a wide range of entry times within those categories. In order to provide boys and girls with the best opportunity to race with runners of similar ability, boys and girls will be seeded in the heats that best match their entry time.

Note: The event reserve the right to reasonably adjust the schedule as needed based on registration numbers. If there are changes, a final schedule will be provided prior to race day. Start times for each section are approximate, but races will not start early.

Registration Fees (REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR ONE-MILE)

  • One-Mile Registration:

    • Early Bird: $24 - Limited to first 50 registrations (Early Bird Price Sold Out 4/22 6:30 p.m.)

    • ​Regular: $29 - Through July 4th

    • Late: $36 - Through July 28

    • ​No one-mile registration​​ after July 28th, including race day.

  • Kids 400m Dash Registration (10 & Under)

    • Early: $5 - Through July 28​

    • Race Day: $5

  • CARA Supporter Level Members Save 10% on One-Mile registration! (Discount credited automatically when logging in at top of the registration form)

  • Refund Policy: If this event is canceled due to COVID-19, participants will have the option to choose to receive a refund (minus transaction fees) of registration fees, or to receive a 110% credit of registration fees for any future CARA registration, or to participate virtually. In all other circumstances, participants must agree that refunds and deferrals will NOT be issued for any reason, including participant injury, illness, personal conflict, and any other issues out of the control of the event, including, but not limited to cancellation due to weather/lightning.

Venue

  • Wilson Track at Montrose Harbor (Wilson Drive and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago). The venue features a lighted eight-lane, synthetic track surface and an artificial turf infield.

One-Mile Race Section Assignments

  • The event will use entry times provided during registration as a guide to group athletes into sections.

  • Participants who do not have a recent one-mile personal best can use an estimated entry time using the calculator HERE. Enter another race best (i.e. 5K), and click "calc", then use the one-mile time in the average column.

  • Please use an entry time that accurately reflects your ability for the one-mile, so we can place you with other athletes of similar ability.

  • Entry times for top sections will be verified. Entry times for all other sections will not require verification.

  • The event reserves the right make section assignments as it sees best, regardless of entry times.

  • Cut-Off: To enter persons should be able to complete 1-Mile in 15 minutes.

  • Heat assignments can be found in Participant Accounts (as of 7/26 5:00 p.m.). New registrants will find their assignment within approx. 24 hours after registration.

Kids Dash

  • The Kid's 400 meter Dash is open to kids 10 years old and younger only.

  • Kid's Dash participants will receive a participation ribbon. A shirt is not provided.

  • Results will not be produced for the Kid's 400 meter Dash. A display clock will show athlete's times as they finish.

  • A kid's focused coach led warm-up will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the kid's dash.

Results / Timing

  • Results for the one-mile will be posted at the event and on the website. Our official timer will use FinishLynx timing. Finish placement will be determined using USATF rules (when the finisher's torso crosses the finish line).

  • Results will not be produced for the Kid's Dash. A display clock will show athlete's times as they finish. 

One-Mile Awards

  • Top 3 athletes in the Top Men's and Women's heats.

  • Top 3 males and females in each age-group (9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85 and over). Age group standings will be compiled by combining all section's results.

  • Overall award winners will not be counted for age-group awards. Awards will be mailed within approx. two-weeks of the event.

One-Mile Prize Money

  • A total of $1,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top five athletes in both the Top Men's and Top Women's heats as follows: $200, $150, $75, $50, $25.

  • Note: Should athletes with remaining high school eligibility place in the top five, they will not receive prize money. Collegiate athletes who's association allows accepting prize money must submit a letter from their schools compliance officer post-race approving the distribution of prize money before it will be paid. Should the prize money for any specific place not be paid out due to the above, other athletes will not be moved up in prize money amounts.

  • July 30 (11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) - Fleet Feet Old Town

  • July 31 (Race Day 4:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.) - Montrose Harbor Wilson Track

FAQ / Policies

What is the program's weather policy?


The event will go on rain or shine. However, if there is lightning or other hazardous weather we will cancel or postpone. Our full weather policy and weather alerts are HERE.




Can I cancel my registration?


No. Should participants voluntarily choose not to participate, or are unable to participate for reasons out of the control of the event (including, but not limited to injury, illness, personal matters, work conflicts, etc.), refunds will not be issued.




Is there a CARA member discount?


Yes, a member discount is applicable to CARA Supporter Level members (Individual, Family or Student packages). Please login to member profile at top of registration before completing registration to receive discount. Registrations by non-members includes a CARA Friend Level membership. Can I partipate with strollers or pets?


No. Participants are not allowed to participate with baby joggers, strollers or animals.




Can a friend pick up my packet?


Yes. Packets may be picked up by a friend or family member at pre-event day pick-ups.




Can I give or sell my registration to another person?


No. You may NOT give (sell or transfer) your registration to another person and another person may NOT participate in another person’s place.




I am not able to race. Can I still get my shirt?


Yes. However, you must come to a packet pick-up. Shirts are not available at the CARA office pre- or post-race.




Can I exchange my shirt for another size?


No. Due to COVID-19 contact safety, shirt exchanges are not permitted.




Can my group/club set up a tent?


No. Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, club/group tents or areas are not permitted within the event venue.




What are the events competition rules?


The event will abide by USATF competition rules. Additionally, the event expects all participants to respect fair competition, including following the RRCA's Fair Competition Policies: https://www.rrca.org/resources/event-directors/fair-competition-policies.




Is their an age minimum to participate?


No. All ages are welcome. However, parents/guardians are responsible for supervision of minors. Parents/guardians planning to run/walk the race with their child must register for the event.




What is the events refund, deferral, or cancellation policy?


This event is approved by the venue to occur as a live in-person event. Our participant guarantee is as follows: If this event is canceled due to COVID-19, participants will have the option to receive a refund minus transaction fees, deferred entry, or to participate virtually (participants choice). In all other circumstances, participants must agree that refunds and deferrals will NOT be issued for any reason, including participant injury, illness, and any other issues out of the control of the event, including, but not limited to cancellation due to weather/lightning.




What is the cut-off time to finish?


Participants must finish within 15 minutes.





Participation expectations are as follows:

  • Participants are expected to wear a mask or face covering when gathering pre- or post-run until they are two weeks post full vaccination for COVID19. Per CDC guidance, fully vaccinated participants are not required to wear a mask or face covering while gathering pre or post-run.

  • Do not participate if you are feeling sick or ill, and or have a fever, or if you are unvaccinated and have been in contact with someone unrecovered from COVID-19.

  • Persons from high-risk groups for COVID-19 complications should consult their physician before participating.

  • Participants are encouraged to avoid traditional forms of physical contact (handshakes, high-fives, hugs, partner stretching, etc.), as well as close group gathering (group pictures, etc.).

  • Do not spit or blow nose while running in the group.

  • Do not share personal items, such as hydration, energy gels, towels, etc.

  • Participants may be required to exit programs/events temporarily or permanently should their actions not meet expectations and or they are creating risk for themselves or others.
